We are a cattle ranch located in Richmond, Texas that specializes in raising pasture beef and grain-fed beef. In addition to beef, we also raise pastured poultry and pasture-raised laying hens for delicious and nutritious eggs. Our Story
From Humble Beginnings
Our ranch has been a family-owned and operated business for generations. Our story goes back to Herman Benson who immigrated from Germany and settled in Dickinson Texas in 1844 and purchased 484 acres along the Dickinson Bayou. His son Henry built one of the largest cattle ranches in Galveston County and had 3 sons to help him. My grandfather ran a butcher shop and general ranch supply store in Dickinson and helped his brothers run the cattle ranch. My great Uncle Roy ran a large herd of 200 broodmares that he bred to the best Jack's around to raise the finest mules on the gulf coast. Great Uncle Marcus ran the cattle operation with the help of his brothers.
My father raised cattle in Dickinson on a piece of the original ranch and I grew up doing the same thing. I have spent my career as a computer programmer following my 4 years of service in the US Army, but I have always kept my hand in the family business raising cattle in Gonzales, Texas, Bonham, Texas and now in Richmond, Texas.

My wife Fran and I have 7 children between us and 7 grandchildren. Everybody pitches in to make this a true family farm. We are proud to have 7 generation continuing what my Great Great Grandfather started back in 1844.

We run our ranch as a regenerative ranch where we take in to account the best regenerative practices from people like Joel Salatin, Greg Judy and Will Harris. We move our animals frequently and do not use synthetic fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides. Our goal is to use the land as it was intended and to keep a synergy between the land, our animals and the natural wildlife.
